A Big Jay

Community Assistance

Practical help with complex financial, care, administrative and public-body issues.

A BIG JAY helps individuals and community interests make sense of difficult situations, reconstruct the facts, organise supporting evidence and work towards a practical outcome.

We focus on research, evidence organisation and hands-on administrative support. Where professional advice is needed, we can help make sure the underlying information is clear, structured and ready to use.

What We Can Help With

Council Tax & Local Authority Issues

Challenging incorrect charges, historic account treatment, exemptions and enforcement action where the position does not appear to be right.

Banking & Information/Data Access

Reviewing long-running banking and account issues, challenging processes and obtaining the records needed to understand what happened and bring matters to a conclusion.

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) Funding

Helping families work through Continuing Healthcare funding issues, organise the relevant information and evidence, and prepare for assessments, reviews or challenges.

Court of Protection & LPA Support

Helping families and respondents work through complex Court of Protection matters, identify the issues, organise evidence, prepare case papers and make informed representations during proceedings.

Deputyship & LPA Administration

Helping with the practical side of Deputy and LPA arrangements, including financial records, account reconciliation, reporting requirements and ongoing administration.

Untangling Complex Cases

Bringing together years of bills, statements, correspondence and decisions to establish what actually happened and where things went wrong so the real issue becomes clear and can be properly challenged.

Selected Outcomes

£15,000+ Council Tax corrections and refunds

Across three Council Tax cases, we challenged historic charging, account treatment and enforcement action and secured corrections and refunds totalling more than £15,000.

In one case, we challenged previous legal threats and fresh court summonses, secured a full review of the Council’s actions, established the correct treatment of the charge and obtained withdrawal of the court action together with a refund of more than £6,500 covering three years.

In two linked property accounts, we reconstructed Council Tax records going back to 2019, challenged incorrect treatment and identified an overlooked statutory exemption. The Council corrected the historic accounts and issued credits and refunds totalling more than £8,500.

Ten-year banking issue resolved

We challenged the bank’s processes and procedures around an issue that had remained unresolved for almost ten years. After obtaining and reviewing its internal records, we were able to bring the matter to a close and ensure the funds were allocated to the correct account.

Court of Protection case concluded

We supported respondents in a complex Court of Protection case, identified the key issues, prepared the evidence and case papers and made representations to the Court. The matter concluded with the Official Solicitor ceasing to act and an appropriate Court Order being made.

Sometimes the hardest part is working out where to start.

A clear chronology, the right documents and a properly evidenced position can turn an apparently complicated problem into something that can actually be dealt with.
